What We Do

Since 1998 our theatre, film and TV work has been mainly focused on themes of human rights and social justice with a particular focus on the under-represented groups and ethnic minorities. Our projects also try to bring Irish stories to an international audience. 

In our to quest create films that reflect a social reality, we are lucky to have gain the trust of public funding bodies and they have and are helping us realise our mission and vision. With their input we are more likely to achieve a higher quality of work and fairly remunerate our crew, cast and contributors.   

Filmography

 

Untold Secrets (2021) – Feature Documentary
The first feature documentary made in Ireland about the Mother and Baby Homes scandal. A groundbreaking work that gave visibility to survivors’ stories, it premiered as the Closing Film of the Galway Film Fleadh and went on to win international awards.

Mincéir (2023) – Feature Documentary
The first documentary in Ireland to give a voice to the Traveller community, told by Travellers themselves. Nothing like it had ever been made before, and the film opened doors for many filmmakers to explore new narratives. Mincéir premiered at the Dublin International Film Festival, was featured in the Irish Film Institute’s international programming, selected as RTÉ’s Pick of the Day, and became one of the most-watched Irish documentaries of 2024.

Breaking Barriers (2024) – Documentary
This documentary carried strong social relevance, highlighting the challenges faced by people with disabilities and promoting inclusion and equality. It was an important step in NOVA’s ongoing commitment to giving voice to under-represented communities..

Las Barreras: Un Relato de Dos Barrios (2024) – Documentary
A portrait of two neighbourhoods in the Basque Country, exploring social identity and community transformation.

Las Casas Baratas de Romo: 100 Años de Historia (2024) – Documentary
A centenary look at Romo’s working-class housing project and its cultural legacy.

Worlds Apart (in pre-production, slated 2026) – Feature Film
A narrative feature supported by Screen Ireland, continuing NOVA’s commitment to telling bold and socially relevant stories.

IBERSCREEN

IBERSCREEN is a groundbreaking initiative is designed to share with the audience the phenomenal quality of the Iberoamerican and Irish film industries. 

The festivals are coordinated by the Irish Indie Film Foundation and are part of the programming of IFI international and IFI.

The festivals are supported by Instituto Cervantes, Accion Cultural Española, Culture Ireland, the Embassy of Spain in Ireland and the Embassy of Ireland in Spain.

The festivals aim is to connect Ireland and Ibero-American countries celebrating and bridging their film culture and giving a networking space to producers where they can blend their magic. Both festival accept film submissions from independent filmmkers.
